Graphic Arts Council / LACMA Stagg was the Communications Chair of the Graphic Arts Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. During his tenure at LACMA, he rebranded the Council, tripled its membership, commissioned new works by artists Shepard Fairey, Raymond Pettibon and Kenny Scharf among others. Introduced late night museum events to cater to working millennials. At Stagg’s urging, LACMA was the first major institution to recognize Video Games as a major art form, and initiated the “Into The Pixel” Annual Awards at E3 to recognize excellence in the medium. 

BANKSY Barely Legal In 2006 Stagg was US consultant to the record-breaking Banksy Barely legal, art show in Los Angeles, attended by approximately 35,000 people in 3 days (LAFD estimate) and featuring heavily in world media. 

 

UCLA Design Media Arts Jesse Stagg has been a regular lecturer in Media Arts at UCLA Design | Media Arts – a leading institution in the field of artwork created with new media technologies, digital art, computer graphics and animation, virtual art, Internet art, interactive art, video games, VR, robotics, 3D printing, and bio-technology. 

Guernica UN coverup In opposition to the U.N.’s censorship of Picasso’s Guernica tapestry – A billboard of Guernica was erected at the corner of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards in Los Angeles. The ‘curtain’, visible only under UV black light was “opened” nightly. Produced by Making Art Work, an organization dedicated to stimulating interaction between people and art, founded by Jesse Stagg, Bettina Korek, Piper Severance and Thea Sprecher and was lauded by chief LA Times Art Critic Christopher Knight as “a trenchant work”.

Filming of short subject films, public talks and interviews feat Hans Ulrich Obrist, Yoko Ono, Rem Koolhaas, Mike Kelley, Matt Groening, Lawrence Weiner, Danny Hillis, John Baldessari, Marina Abramovic, among others. 

Mandela Mural by Shepard Fairey & US State Department Cultural Grant In 2014 Stagg curated and produced Shepard Fairey’s first African installation. A 10-story mural to commemorate the passing of Nelson Mandela and the 20th anniversary of Democracy in South Africa. The US Ambassador praised it as “a monumental tribute to the world’s greatest statesman.” 

Media & Culture With a track record of insight and foresight in vital developing cultural movements like: techno culture, Electronica, branded content, streaming, street and media arts, Stagg has been privileged to collaborate with a diverse international network of artists, creators and producers working at the leading edge of contemporary culture. His cult web animated series The 7th Portal, about VR super heroes called the Cybernauts was produced by Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee coining the neologism “Webisode” now in Websters Dictionary. His campaigns as art director at Cartoon Network Studios established a design direction that helped define the network. Stagg’s launch campaigns for Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken and other Emmy-winning shows, gave rise to the Cartoon Cartoon! hit-factory, ushering in a new generation of animation superstars. 

As Media Arts Instructor Stagg has lectured at UCLA, CalState LA and AFDA. He has been interviewed by VICE, Tech TV and the Los Angeles Times and his projects covered by the Wall Street Journal, TIME, CNN, Variety and Hollywood Reporter.                                     See more at www.stagg.tv
